ENHANCING CAPACITY FOR ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE AND ENFORCEMENT OF ACCESS RIGHTS IN CAMEROON.
ENHANCING CAPACITY FOR ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE AND ENFORCEMENT OF ACCESS RIGHTS IN CAMEROON.
From January 2010, the Foundation for Environment & Environment (FEDEV) has engaged in the production and distribution of some hard copies of basic national environmental laws. This is a post assessment activity designed to promote the capacity of Judicial Actors and relevant legal stakeholders for effective enforcement of the access rights and good governance in Cameroon. FEDEV has produced hundreds of copies of the following laws:
- The 1996 Framework Law on Environmental Management in Cameroon (Law No 96/12 of 5th August)
- Compendium of the 1994 Forestry, Fisheries and Wildlife Laws with relevant Implementation Instruments.
- Compendium of Laws on Environmental Impact Assessment of 2005.
- 1978 Law on natural resource conflicts management (Decree No 78/263 of 3rd July 1978 on Farmer-Grazier Disputes)
The laws are being distribute to judicial actors in the country (judges, prosecutors, lawyers, bailiffs, investigators and registry staff) and relevant stakeholders including: government enforcement institutions/officials, Civil administrators, law faculties, civil societies, impacted communities, Traditional Rulers, environmental litigants etc. Within the ambit of TAI strategy, we are working in collaboration with the government as usual. Distribution of the environmental laws is ongoing, but so far, the beneficiaries are very gratified that the TAI process is equipping them with the relevant materials (Laws) indispensable for them to creatively and effectively promote environmental democracy and sustainable development.
