WRI and Pace University convened a meeting of experts involved in researching, promoting and supporting environmental adjudication and the rule of law worldwide. The meeting was the beginning of a dialogue about how to implement and increase access to environmental courts. The key obstacles identified were the hidden costs of litigation, cultural barriers, and problems with enforcing judgments. The meeting allowed for judges, law professors, and professionals interested in increasing access to justice and capacity building to exchange information and establish areas of future collaboration. Next steps include creating flexible tools that can be molded and adapted depending on countries and documenting best practices of judicial training and capacity building.
