As noted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), on May, 5, 2010 Brazil has approved a new Access to Information Law.
This Law, which regulates access to information within the public administration, represents a great step forward for Brazilian democracy. The Access to Information Law contributes to strengthen the country’s commitment to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, especially the provisions contained in Article 19. It now awaits consideration by the Senate and sanction by the President.
