GMO Potato Amflora permitted by the European Commission for cultivation

Anti-GMO NGOs have noticed with anger that the European Commission has permitted the cultivation and placing on the market of a GMO potato variation called Amflora in its decisions made in March (Commission Decisions 2010/135/EU and 2010/136/EU). Justice and Environment, European Network of Environmental Law Organizations chaired by Csaba Kiss, TAI Core Team member for Europe has decided to - fight this decision, in cooperation with other anti-GMO NGOs from Austria and Germany, - test the applicability of the Request for Internal Review (RIR) mechanism of the EU under the Aarhus Convention. The RIR was submitted within the 6-week deadline in April, and we are expecting a response from DG Health of the Commission soon, given that their deadline for responses is weeks as well. We will keep the TAI community informed about the developments.
