JUDICIAL CAUCUS ON ENVIRONMENT

On the 31/10/09, a Judicial Caucus on Environment was formed. This was formed at the end of a two days capacity building workshop on Environmental law and the for the judiciary. Mission statement: A NETWORK TO ENHANCE LEARNING, EXPERIENCE SHARING AND INTERACTION ON ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES, AMONG MEMBERS OF THE JUDICIARY.

The objectives were adopted as follows: 1) To foster learning, experience sharing among its members. 2) To function as an effective vehicle for strengthening capacity not only for judges and magistrates but also for other key stakeholders, who directly contribute to the promotion of environmental protection and sustainable development 3) Enhance the quality of environmental case law. 4) Promote enforcement of environmental law 5) Provide positive relationships and opportunities for exchange of ideas and experiences among members. 6) Enhance networking amongst judicial actors in the field of environmental Law 7) To work for the advancement and development of environmental law. The Caucus is governed by a nine man executive board with a project team and advisers. The existence of this caucus is a commendation body in the promotion of environmental democracy in Cameroon. The formation of the Caucus is indicative of the desire of Cameroonian Judges and Magistrates to be part of the solution to the growing multitudes of environmental problems.
