Nepal Begins to Implement Principle 10 of the Rio Declaration
In the past two years the government of Nepal has begun taking steps toward making a firm commitment on environmental protection through their implementation of Principle 10. As a signatory of the Rio Declaration, Nepal is obliged to implement Principle 10 to improve access rights including: access to information, access to justice and public participation.
Over the past year and a half the TAI Nepal coalition has undertaken a national assessment of the laws and practices in Nepal, using the standardized TAI Assessment Toolkit Research Method. The findings of this research have helped the government of Nepal establish a baseline of Principle 10 objectives to implement. The report also identifies the gaps within the current laws and has served as a platform for the current constitutional reform.
Specific details of the findings can be found in the attached article by the Nepalese Magazine: “Headlne Magazine”.
