The 2nd TAI assessment launched in Guizhou China

WRI and ICRAF-China organized 2 days training workshop in Guiyang city, the capital of Guizhou province China, from May 10 to11 2009. Potential partners and advisors of the TAI coalition for Guizhou met with representatives of LIFE (Legal Initiative for Forest and Environment, India) and ECO-Watch (Yunnan,China).
Dr.Xu & Mr.Ritwick’s introduction covered the issue of A2I,A2J and PP and gave Guizhou team an overview of experiences in India and in Yunnan,china. 14 Participants were trained on TAI Assessment Toolkit. Center for Mountainous Resources Conservation and Development Study (CMRCD) will take a leader role in Guizhou coalition. When the assessment is completed, there will be the 2nd TAI assessment with provincial level in China.
The Assessment in Guizhou examines eight case studies on access to information:one case about information in an emergency, gold mine pollution in Qinglong County, air quality monitoring in Guiyang City, monitoring of drinking water quality in Hong Feng lake reservoir in Guiyang city, noise quality monitoring in Guiyang City, facility-level information of Ziyun ferroalloy factory, State of Environment Report of Guizhou Province, a study of 2007 local Icy days impacted in Guizhou Province.
Six case studies on public participation are: public participation in decision-making on Provincial Forestry Development Strategies in provincial level, Karst development plan in western Guizhou in regional level, environment protection policies in Caihai Reservation in Weining prefecture in county level,the initiative of participation in environmental regulatory of citizens in Guiyang, high-quality living paper project of Tianzhu paper company Ltd in Chishui city, domestic garbage process project of Jinping County.
Four case studies about access to Justice are: access to correct information about bottled water safety - some people clamed caught hepatitis after drinking bottled water,farmed participate in protecting endangered trees in their community in Leishan County, public access to justice about air pollution of their houses in Guiyang city, some people have claimed trees around their villages were cut down by one big company in Qingzhen city.
